History Of Great Northern Oliver Collectors By Muriel Smith In 1997 it was brought to our attention that we should have a chapter of the Hart-Parr Oliver Collectors Asociation. With the help of Maryann Townsend of Charles City, She provided a list of HPOCA Members from Minnesota, Northern Iowa, and western Wisconsin.
Information was sent out to see if there was an interest in forming a chapter. The response was great. So a chapter was formed.
Great Northern Oliver Collectors had its first official meeting at a farm south of Owatonna, MN. The chapter was was formed under a large oak tree. We had our first banquet in the spring of 1998, there it was decided to have two summer shows that summer. The first one was to be with The Root River Antique and Power Show, the following weekend to the Hastings show.
It was decided then to start the on going calendar, 1999 was our first edition.
In 2000 the chapter hosted the National HPOCA show with a very outstanding showing of Olivers and implements.
Over the years we have grown in membership from all over the United States. We have many outstanding members.
Great Northern Oliver Collectors is a non-profit organization, so we are tax-exempt. We have given a substanial amount of money, starting in 2005 we decided to give scholarships of $2000.00 yearly to students going in to the agricultural field. We have also given money to The Oliver Memorial and the Oliver Museum.
Each year the Great Northern Oliver Collectors participate in several summer tractor shows. we have been very active with The Root River Antique and Power Show by Spring Valley,MN.
As we get the show dates for 2009 we will post them on this website.
